The Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), Dr. (Mrs.) Angela Ajala, has paid an impromptu visit to Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education, Kumbotso, where she assured the institution of the Commission’s continued support towards its growth and development.
Dr. Ajala, who was received by the Provost of the College, Dr. Kabir Ahmed Gwarzo, during the visit, inspected facilities at the Department of Home Economics and ICT Center, where she commended the College for the warm reception accorded her. The Executive Secretary urged the College to place greater emphasis on skills that are globally certified, particularly in the area of entrepreneurship training, stressing that institutions of teacher education must equip students with relevant skills capable of making them self-reliant and competitive in the global economy.

She disclosed that the College would be considered among institutions that could be selected as centres of excellence in entrepreneurship and skills development, adding that such recognition would further strengthen the College’s contribution to human capital development. Dr. Ajala also challenged the College to cultivate strategic partnerships with relevant organisations and institutions, both nationally and internationally, particularly in the areas of research, innovation and capacity development. According to her, building strong partnerships would provide institutions with greater opportunities for research funding, knowledge exchange and sustainable development.
The Executive Secretary further expressed her willingness to assist the College in its efforts to establish an NCE programme in French Language, revealing that she has access to the Ambassador of France and would explore the opportunity to facilitate the necessary support towards achieving the objective. Earlier, the Provost of the College, Dr. Kabir Ahmed Gwarzo, welcomed the Executive Secretary and expressed appreciation for her decision to visit the institution.

The Provost gave a brief historical background of the College and commended Dr. Ajala for the achievements she had recorded within the short period since her appointment as Executive Secretary of the NCCE, particularly her efforts towards strengthening the Dual Mode Mandate of Colleges of Education.
Dr. Gwarzo appealed to the Executive Secretary to support the College in its quest to introduce an NCE programme in French Language, stressing that the programme would further broaden the academic offerings of the institution and contribute to the development of qualified French Language teachers. The Provost also expressed confidence that the Executive Secretary’s leadership of the NCCE would bring renewed transformation to teacher education in Nigeria.

The visit provided an opportunity for the NCCE leadership and the management of Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education to exchange views on issues relating to teacher education, entrepreneurship, research, partnerships and the overall development of Colleges of Education in Nigeria.
