Professor Paulinus Chijioke Okwelle, the Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), has reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining an open-door policy while leading the Teacher Preparation Institutions in Nigeria. He emphasized this commitment during a meeting with the Association of Retired Directors of the Federal Ministry of Education (ARED-FME) in Abuja on June 26, 2024.
In a statement to the NCCE Media Crew after the meeting, ARED-FME President Uwem Asomugha explained that the decision to engage with NCCE was driven by the commission’s critical role in preparing teachers at the basic education level. She noted that the meeting aimed to enhance the capacity of ARED-FME members to support the association's initiatives. Asomugha highlighted that ARED-FME has implemented several interventions addressing key educational issues as part of its ongoing programs and activities. ''As retired Directors in the Federal Ministry of Education, we aim to advise, counsel, and guide policymakers and other stakeholders in the education system,'' said Mrs. Uwem. She emphasized the association's deep knowledge of past practices and interest in staying informed about current trends. Mrs. Uwem also called for NCCE’s cooperation in keeping ARED-FME updated on relevant events for inclusion in their magazine.
Professor Okwelle expressed his privilege to host such esteemed senior citizens in response. ''We must thank God almighty that you served meritoriously during your time and retired without any blemish,'' he said. He praised the association members for their sacrifices and contributions to the education sector, which can now serve as a reference point. ''Your mission is a good one, and we want to encourage you. On our part, we will work out modalities for a symbiotic relationship,'' he added. The visit concluded with a group photograph.
